For ten minutes now I have been scrolling through google trying to find sample-posts on how to write an Introductory blog post. I have found that when I have to write something about myself, I get stuck. Why is that? I am the only person in the world who knows myself best and better than anyone else, and somehow I could not come up with a few simple statements about my new blog and what I hope to achieve by starting it.
I think that this comes from the habit that I have developed as a humanities student: we are always writing something analytical, literary, or informational about someone, or something, else. We are rarely asked to introduce ourselves in a formal setting (unless, of course, it is for a job opportunity).
Nevertheless… Hello! My name is Angelica. 🙂
If I have to be honest here, I never thought that I would become a student majoring in the humanities. I am a passionate and dedicated student majoring in both history and literature; but, when I was little I actually wanted to become a singer….
It was actually half-way into High-School when I realized that I my passion lies within the world of the humanities. When I entered college I also had a weird moment where I changed my major a few times – as does every college student. But, through my studies, I have developed a keen interest in exploring the intersection of history and literature, and how these two disciplines enrich each other.
I am particularly interested in spirituality, sexuality, and women in history and literature. I tend to focus on Late antiquity and the Middle Ages in Europe and the Mediterranean. However, I will occasionally shift gears and write about different periods, locations, and historical/literary topics. Through this blog, I hope to engage with readers who share my passion for history and literature. Most of all, I hope to create a space for myself, and others, to interact with interesting issues in history and topics of literature.
Thank you and enjoy!
